Flag Fabric Guide: 210D vs 420D Polyester vs Nylon

The fabric determines how a flag looks, how long it lasts and how much it costs. Here is a practical guide to the three materials we use most.

210D polyester

A lighter, economical weave that is ideal for indoor use, light outdoor use and promotional flags. It takes print very well and keeps costs down. Best for markets that are price-sensitive or where flags are replaced regularly.

420D polyester

A heavier weave with a denser feel. It resists wind and abrasion much better, which makes it the default choice for flags that fly outdoors every day — including national flags sold to end users.

Nylon

Nylon is lighter than polyester and dries quickly. It flies in the lightest breeze, which is why it is popular for ceremonial and display flags. It is more expensive and can fade faster under harsh UV, so it is usually specified for indoor or short-term ceremonial use.

Quick recommendation

• Cheapest indoor / promotional flags → 210D polyester
• Everyday outdoor national flags → 420D polyester
• Ceremonial, light-wind flying → nylon
